Malaysia Case Study
Appian has recently installed a Pilot System in Malaysia for a Violation Enforcement System application. In this case the tolls are collected by ETC, proximity card and cash methods.
The initial 8 lane system is for proof of concept with the Violation Enforcement System back-office being integrated with Talon by a local System integrator.
Exit ramps from the N/S Highway near Kuala Lumpur are monitored and the camera information fed back to the Plaza Operations Centre approximately 1 km away by fibre optic cables. At the plaza lanes a total of six cameras are installed each monitoring a single lane.
As Malaysian plates are generally non-reflective we have installed a conventional high quality camera for each monitored lane.
In daylight hours there is sufficient illumination for ALPR but at night time, or when it is heavily overcast a flood IR illuminator is automatically switched on by a photocell to provide the necessary light.
A single Talon unit processes the camera video from all 8 cameras in the Plaza
All recognitions and associated images are written to a database which is accessed remotely over TCP/IP Wide Area Network. It is expected that this system will roll out to more than 1,000 lanes.
