Appian Technology sales drive in the Unites States starts to pay dividends
Appian Technology Plc, the OFEX-listed traffic management systems group, has made a break through in the US market by winning orders to equip a west coast highway patrol force with its mobile Automatic License Plate Recognition systems.
The US law enforcement agency will be supplied with four Talon units, which are fitted in patrol cars and are used to detect stolen vehicles. The order represents a major step forward for Appian whose systems are already used by over 40 police forces in the UK alone.
Appian has also received an order for two Talon mobile systems from a police force in Alabama. Additionally, successful trials have been completed with multiple law enforcement agencies on the Eastern seaboard of the US, which the Company is confident will shortly translate into orders.
Appian Chairman Pat Ryan said: "We have been focusing our efforts on expanding our sales platform both in the UK and abroad. The US is one of our key markets and offers Appian huge opportunities. Although the orders are not substantial in revenue terms, I am very encouraged by these early sales successes".
"We have been targeting the US police and paramilitary market for the last six months and demonstrating our systems to a number of law enforcement agencies. The potential market for our products is significant and the interest being shown by various agencies is very encouraging".
"It is a hard market to open but now we have gained the endorsement from a number of law enforcement agencies and have a platform from which to grow. By using local partners and distributors, we have a strong network that can maximise the exposure of our product range. We have a superb product in great demand."
Talon works by having a local 'on board' database of stolen vehicles and othervehicles of interest to the police. The cameras, fitted to the cruiser, record the license plates and then the Talon system starts the recognition procedure. Processed plates are instantaneously cross-referenced against those in the database. The whole process is completed in milliseconds.
