British Transport Police - £120,000 order for portable Talon Sentinel ALPR systems

Appian Technology plc the provider of Automatic License Plate Recognition systems ('ALPR') and traffic management products and solutions, has won a GBP120,000 ALPR order from the British Transport Police (`BTP') to assist them in increasing security measures on the UK transport and rail network.

Further follow-on orders from the BTP are likely in the next 12 months with the installation of permanent ALPR systems at the UK's major railway stations. Sentinel, Appian's portable ALPR system designed to be hand carried and rapidly set up, was chosen by the BTP following a live trial of the product at the G8 conference in July 2005. Sentinel was installed at a number of station car parks and key security points, resulting in eight arrests and the detection of several sabotage attempts by protestors.

Appian Chairman Pat Ryan said: "This order further confirms our status as a key security supplier to this sector and strengthens our position going forward. In the light of recent terrorist attacks in London, there is a rising focus on transport infrastructure security and the need to `deter and detect' terrorist activity. Our ALPR system is increasingly being chosen for mission critical security and counter terrorist applications due to its accuracy, competitive pricing and excellent references from UK police forces.
