Sofia selects the Appian Talon ALPR system - to crack down on crime
Appian Technology plc has won an order to equip Sofia city centre with its Talon ALPR technology. Another key international city has selected the Talon ALPR system.
Surveillance and ALPR cameras will be mounted on all intersections between the Bulbank building and the Orlov Most bridge in downtown Sofia where most of the government institutions are located.
The
system will go into operation on April 1 as the first stage of the
interior ministry's video surveillance project - launched in late 2005.
A total of 100 locations throughout the city will be fitted with
surveillance devices.
The
system will allow law enforcement agencies to record traffic violations
and prevent street crime. The real-time camera feed will also assist
the police in managing traffic and congestion.
The
surveillance of public venues is one of the measures promised by the
police in the aftermath of several assassinations carried out in the
center of the capital. The project was developed by a working group
formed after the October killing of banker Emil Kyulev.
The interior ministry has formed a working group to assist the development of similar projects in other Bulgarian cities.
