Genesis acquisition - customer update

Tom Keene, Commercial Director - Appian technology PLC

It gives me great pleasure to inform you of exciting developments at Appian Technology plc. Today we acquired Genesis (UK) Ltd, a complementary business that will enable us to provide you with a broader product offering and a more encompassing service. We operate in a fragmented market and by merging businesses we can supply customers with a single point of service thus making their decisions easier and more seamless.  This letter will explain how the combined businesses will operate and what the major benefits will be to you.

On a broad level, we feel this acquisition demonstrates our commitment to the policing, counter terrorism and commercial security markets both in the UK and internationally.  We want to ensure that we are the partner of choice in these markets and maintain the ability to provide effective solutions to our clients needs. Both companies operate in the ALPR market and have a complementary range of products. The combined business not only strengthens our critical mass in the market place, but also ensures that we can maintain a high level of product development, leading technology and customer service.

The new product mix allows our customers to benefit from what I believe to be an unbeatable full product offering for ‘front line’ and back office ALPR requirements. None of the current products offered for sale by the combined companies will be divested or discontinued. The full line up now includes fixed, mobile, portable and handheld ALPR systems. In terms of back office ALPR data management, the entire product range is complemented by Genesis’ state of the art ‘Bigfish’ ALPR BOF system. This product is designed to manage multiple frontline ALPR assets such as fleets of mobile ALPR systems and multiple fixed ALPR systems. It also has the ability to easily interface to third party databases and intelligence systems.

As I hope our customers recognise, one of the key areas of the Groups business is post sales service, support and maintenance and we remain committed to maintaining a high level of service. Post acquisition, maintenance operations will be fully merged and integrated and Appian’s customers will now benefit from maintenance teams operating from Genesis’ premises based in Knutsford, Cheshire and Cheddar, Somerset. This allows Appian to support its key customers in Northern England in a timely and efficient manner. Similarly Genesis has a number of key customers under maintenance and service contracts located in the south of England, where Appian are headquartered. This will mean considerably enhanced levels of service and support to our customers, a key factor in the mission critical police and paramilitary market.

In terms of research and development, the combined resources of both companies will mean exciting new products can be brought to the market far quicker and we will be able to react and complete our customer’s customisation requirements far better. The financial strength of the combined group places us on a very firm footing for the future; our collective influence on our supply chains will mean better value for our customers in the long term.
