Fixed

The Talon Fixed ALPR System offers a fully integrated 'turnkey' system, requiring minimal technical input from the user. Talon fixed ALPR systems are permanent roadside installations, capable of processing and recognising licence plates in very high speed, high density traffic environments, including motorways and freeways. Existing town and city centre CCTV cameras, or highways monitoring cameras can be used in Talon fixed ALPR systems.

Applications

System Details & Operational Use CCTV and ALPR how does it work?

ALPR technology can be 'superimposed' on to the existing CCTV infrastructure, using existing cameras and cabling control room infrastructure - a highly cost effective way of delivering the benefits ALPR to a town or city centre. A simple PRU, or plate recognition unit is installed in to the CCTV control room. This is a PC with Talon SP recognition software installed; in turn the PRU is connected to the CCTV cameras via a video matrix. When vehicles of interest pass the camera locations the system will alarm and alert the operator when a 'hit' occurs on the vehicle database. The database also lets the user search all retained vehicle records, ideal for post incident enquiries. The cameras can be switched from normal surveillance mode to ALPR mode using simple 'presets'. When ALPR mode is selected the cameras will adjust to a fast shutter speed and pan tilt and zoom onto the target road - giving for optimal ALPR performance.

For mission critical applications, additional dedicated infra red I-Star ALPR cameras can be installed for guaranteed 24/7 performance.

Talon Fixed 'Roadside' ALPR systems

The Talon fixed site camera solution is designed to monitor specific sites and capture points, such as bridges tunnels and key road junctions or key points of interest.

The Talon roadside system is capable of processing and recognising licence plates in very high speed high, density traffic motorway traffic environments.

In a typical fixed system, 4 ALPR cameras and 4 Overview cameras can be permanently installed overlooking the vehicle carriageway. These are then connected back a dedicated roadside PRU, or plate recognition unit. This is a PC with Talon SP recognition software installed. The PRU is normally contained in a secure environmentally conditioned cabinet at the roadside.

The final element of the system is communications from the roadside back to the CCTV control rooms or operations office. This is achieved using 'line' based systems such as fibre optic transmission or cable, or using wireless technology such as GPRS, wireless LAN or microwave transmission.
